📋Secretary's Report
The recent hot weather is creating difficulties for everyone and is affecting how plots are managed. While the IBC water stations have been provided for your use, everyone is strongly encouraged to develop their own methods of harvesting and storing water. As a longer-term consideration, we all need to adapt to the fact that our summers are getting hotter and drier.
On the topic of our community, we have had very good results from personal recommendations in the past. If you know of anyone interested in joining us as a new tenant, please contact the committee. Thank you to everyone for your continued cooperation and for working together to make Klondyke a great place to be during these warmer months.
🛠️Site Maintenance & Improvements
- Tree Survey: The site-wide tree survey has been completed, concluding that the trees are generally in good condition. Nottingham City Council is now responsible for obtaining quotations and arranging the recommended works.
- New Lease: Work regarding the new leases for the independent sites continues. While progress remains slower than hoped, Nottingham City Council has now submitted the first draft lease for another independent allotment site to its Legal Services for review — an encouraging step expected to assist progress on our own Klondyke lease in due course.
- Klondyke Portal: Development is continuing on the new Klondyke Web Portal, which will include a public-facing website and a secure tenant portal.
- Site Access: The committee is reviewing general site access to identify where improvements could be made.
🌱Plot Inspections
The formal site inspection process has now concluded. We would just like to take a moment to thank the committee members for putting in the time to conduct this exercise. It is something we have to do, but would much prefer not to!
⚠️Important Reminders & Safety
To keep the site safe and respectful for everyone:
- Council Site Works: Thank you to everyone for your patience during the recent car park closures. Contractors are currently completing the final finishing works across the site as part of the Council's funded programme.
- Boundary Security: We are actively monitoring plot boundaries. Formal notices are being issued regarding outstanding gate or fence security gaps and rear boundary encroachments.
- Seed Scheme: The Dobies seed scheme has now been brought to a close as we review other ways to support our growers.
📍Vacant Plots
The committee is currently discussing options for getting several vacant plots cleared and strimmed to improve visibility for potential new tenants.
